jobs jobs jobs

I am really glad everyone is getting jobs. CONGRADULATIONS ANDREW! He is working for Lowes…seems like a perfect fit :o) . I think he delt with the whole not having a job thing pretty well. Most everyone was getting really cranky and irritable and sometimes even blatantly mean, when they didn’t have jobs. I can understand why…its really stressful. Like your falling through a black hole and someone is either going to catch you or the world is going to tear (sp?) you to shreds. I think that people who build their identity around their major or their “intelligence” especially have a hard time when they can’t find a job. “WHAT?! companies arn’t throwing themselves at my feet?! Whats going on….maybe i’m not smart…maybe i’m not ment to be an engineer or a biologist or a computer programmer…maybe i’m just a loser”. I think people who have a solid family background and understanding of whats really important..although they get stressed out like everyone else…seem to handle the whole no job thing better.

I agree, but I don’t think that a “solid” family background makes it any less stressful. And understanding of what’s important?? Isn’t feeding yourself clothing yourself and having a place to lay your head all important?? None of this would be possible if no one had jobs.

It’s been 20 plus years since I had to look for a job so I still remember what it felt like to be freshly educated and unemployed. The funny thing is, the older I get the more I realize that having a job and the status of the job is not who we are. Sure we need to work to live a decent life, and there are jobs of all kinds for those who really what one. It just may not be the job that we think we deserve. The stress of getting a job is really not there, only the stressful thinking. Here is a little reminder I keep with me at all times that sort sums up what I need to remember about what we do with our education.
“One specific means of identifications with the poor is discovered in our approach to education. Do we see a college education, for example as a ticket to privilege or as a training for service to the needy? What do we teach our teenagers in this matter? Do we urge them to enter college because it will better equip them to serve? Or do we try to bribe them with promises of future status and salary increases? No wonder they graduate more deeply concerned about their standard of living than about suffering humanity” Richard Frost - Freedom of Simplicity
Relax - It will all work out.
