Voting Made Easy

Posted by Brian under: Politics .

Not sure who to vote for in the upcoming election?? You are voting aren’t you?? If you want to know who to vote for, ask my grandfather. He will go on and on until you want to vote for the other guy just to spite him. If you don’t care who wins, or you think that neither one is good, why not choose who you will vote for by checking out each of their webpages. GeorgeBush.com and JohnKerry.com

I have to say that I like the overall look of Kerry’s website better. It’s less crowded and seems to be more organized. Kerry’s has 3 columns while Bush’s has 4. Both websites have similar content. Stuff about them, their wives, their running mate, an “official” blog. Another interesting thing is the downloads section. Kerry has buddy icons, and Bush has newsfeeds that you can put on your website. Both have banners, and desktop backgrounds, and bush even has a couple screensavers. Both of course have an online store, where you can buy stuff with their names on it. Bush is slightly higher on a shirt 13.95 vs Kerry’s 13.00. Bush however does tell you that his shirts are “Made in the USA” where Kerry lists no information on the source of his shirts. Bush has a wider selection of items on his site than Kerry, but both have some interesting choices. I don’t know how many John Kerry dogtags will be sold, or if selling Bush/Cheney shot glasses sends the right message.

My favorite part of both websites is the section called “Kerry Media Center” or “Rapid Response.” This is where both sides try to keep up with the other, and respond to anything at all that the other might say, and attempt to prove it wrong. This is where you can go if you want to get the dirt on the other candidate. If you read both of these sections, you will probably seriously question either party’s promise to “play fair” and not sling mud.

All in all, I think the webpages can be in interesting place to go for general information on the candidates, but don’t expect to see anything too specific in their pages devoted to their plans on various issues. They will both be happy to tell you that they are going to do a better job, and they are going to fix this or that, but neither one will give you any specifics on how they are going to do that. For example, from Kerry’s page on homeland security:

Today, our borders, our ports, and our airports are not as secure as they must be. John Kerry and John Edwards will make our airports, seaports, and borders more secure without intruding upon personal liberties.

Great. So how are they going to make our airports more secure? What specific plans do they have to make sure that my personal liberties are not intruded upon by that lady at the airport who wants to get real friendly with the metal detector?

Bush’s site spends about no time telling you what he will do, and most all the time telling you what he’s already done.

Go visit the sites, then let me know what you think about them.

One Comment so far...
