Too Organized?

Posted by Brian under: Apartment Life; My Thoughts .

Is it possible to be too organized? Maybe it’s less of an organization problem, and more of a problem holding on to everything. I like to hold on to stuff. You never know when you will need it again, but it will probably be about a week after you got rid of it. This is especially true for computer stuff. I swear I could build about three computers from all the crap I have. Granted they would be slow and crappy computers, but I have the stuff none the less. I also have been holding on to all my notes from every college class that I have taken. Now some of these folders only hold a few pages of notes, but I have them all neatly labeled and organized. I guess I was holding on to the hope that I could pass them down to some poor college kid, and he could somehow make sense of my notes and use them to pass a few classes. Well now I’ve realized that even if I did give my notes to someone, they would probably be worse off than if they had no notes. So now I guess all my organization will go down the drain when I chuck all my notes into the dumpster today. I still can’t bring myself to part with some of the computer stuff, but maybe that will be next. One interesting fact came from my inability to throw stuff out. I tallied it all up and over the course of college, I spent more than 1,700 dollars on textbooks. Now for some reason the reciepts from my last year of school are missing. I think I threw them out when I moved out of school, without putting them in the “Book Reciepts” folder. So if you figure maybe 500 more for the last year, then I’m well over $2,000 for my career. What a waste. Most of those books are sitting at my parents house, waiting to be thrown out there. I mean they must be useless because the bookstore wouldn’t buy them back, of course there is a new edition out. If I hadn’t been organized, I would never have known how much money I had spent in total on stuff I half read the first time, and probably won’t read ever again.

On an unrelated note, I hope everyone had a good thanksgiving. I for one am thankful for leftovers.

One Comment so far...

I can just picture it, you will be 60 something trying to give your old textbooks to your grandson who is in high school or college, insisting that it will help him understand the material much better than using his current textbook or listening to his teachers. Does this sound familiar? Of course this will only happen if you factor children into your budget!!
