In South Africa maybe…. but here??
Posted by Brian under: My Thoughts; Politics .
I can see things like this happening in South Africa, and it doesn’t really bother me (for better or worse ), but when I read about this type of thing happening here, I start to get a little bit worried. What I’m talking about is the seizing of private property for “public” use. The Supreme Court recently ruled that local governments could seize, even against the owners will, their land and use it for private development. I can see seizing the land if it’s needed to create a road, or maybe even for a school, but it seems like something isn’t right if it’s seized for private development, even if that development is supposed to benefit the public. I was trying to figure out if this ruling was leaning more towards the democrat’s views, or the republicans, but I have yet to figure it out. On the one hand, Democrats are usually for more government control, so it would seem that they would be behind this ruling which lets the local government tell everyone how to best use the land. But on the other hand, big developers are likely to profit from this ruling, so that makes it seem republican. So i’m still trying to figure out who wants the local government to be able to take our land against our will, but either way I’m against it. It’s not looking good for a future first time homebuyer, if it could just get taken away when they decide that instead of my house, there really needs to be a Super Target there. I guess when I go to buy a house, I should get some guns to help defend my property when and if the government comes knocking.
