Dare I begin down this path of no return?

Posted by Brian under: My Thoughts .

And start reading the Harry Potter book series? Until now I have been able to hold out and not read a single page of any of the books. I saw both of the movies, and they didn’t inspire me to start reading the books. But now Val has gotten a set of the first five, and the sixth is due to arrive later this week. Billy has already gotten the sixth book, and I haven’t heard very much from him since he got it. Basically as soon as he gets home, he starts reading. So this has made me think that maybe I’m missing out on something. If it’s so good, that you would buy the books after already reading them, and millions of readers are reading non-stop to finish it, it must be better than the movies. The only thing I fear is that I will begin reading them, and be unable to stop. Similar to “Pillars of the Earth”, which I had to read for a college class. I think that was the best book that I read in all of college, and probably high school too. I finished it about a month ahead of schedule, which actually made it hard to talk about in the class, because I would forget and want to say something about what was happening later in the book. I can’t even remember what the name of the class was now. Had something to do with midevial times or something. It was online, no work, and pretty much the only thing it was good for was getting me to buy the “Pillars of the Earth” book. But back to my current book dilemma. Do I want to begin a Harry Potter binge that will probably have me looking like a drug addict; Bags under my eyes, can’t concentrate at work, would do anything for the next fix. Or should I stay Potter free, and not worry about what I’m missing out on? Anyone coming off of a Harry Potter high and want to share their experiences?

You must read them now, they are the best books EVER!! I made fun of Harry Potter until about the third movie came out, then I finally broke down. I ended up reading the 1st-5th straight. I would read them everyday at lunch and it would be the best part of my day. A time I would always look forward to. How I miss those days. Gosh this new book better come soon before I steal Billy’s. HP FOR LIFE!

Brian if you do choose to start reading them I would advise you to pace yourself otherwise you’ll end up clawing at the doors waiting for book seven. You should have seen work(Books-A-Million) the night of the release. Easily 1000 people showed up and well you kind of just have to see it to believe the madness. Enjoyable books though.

you might be safe, I enjoyed them but was not addicted. I have started the next to the last one but somehow keep getting distracted and haven’t gotten past the beginning, maybe I will bring it to the beach. It is amazing to think that the author has such an incredible imagination.

Tried to read the first one and just couldn’t connect. I was told to persevere but haven’t done so yet. I’ll wait to see what you decide to do. Good talking to you yesterday!!!
