What does Brian’s sperm and Michael Phelps have in common?…

… They are both strong swimmers!!! That’s right; sometime around May 6th of 2009 the Painter family will add another to the head count. Valerie took a pregnancy test and it showed up positive, but since it was a generic store brand test I was waiting to hear a more official word from the doctor. Well we went to the doctor, and it’s official: It’s at 4.8mm and growing. I guess the store brand is just as good as the name brand when it comes to those things. We weren’t necessarily trying to get pregnant, but then again we weren’t not trying either. There wasn’t much to see on the ultrasound, just a black blob, and inside that black blob there was a small speck that is the newest Painter. I’ve decided that until we know if it’s a boy or a girl I am going to assume that it’s a boy. And until Val and I can pick out a name for it, I’m going to call it Peanut. So the Peanut is hanging out inside Val’s belly, and I’m frantically doing a search for parenting books on the Internet. Turns out I have a bunch of unanswered questions. I guess I should’ve paid more attention in Biology class; they pretty much lost my interest once we got past the mechanics of how the baby was conceived. How do the arms and legs know when to stop growing? How do the cells know if they are going to be making a liver, or an eyeball? How does it poop? Anyways, I’m really excited, and I wish the Peanut would get here sooner!! In the mean time if anyone has a kid that needs a diaper change, Val has informed me that I better get practicing. I told her that I’ve changed at least two diapers in my lifetime, I’m sure it’s not that hard. Besides we live out in the country, I don’t even know if kids out here have to wear diapers?. I’ll let you know if I find anything on child diaper regulations.
